August's Martial Artist of the Month is Daniel Miller

What a summer it has been for Straight Blast Gym Kickboxer, Daniel Miller.

On June 30th, Daniel took a Muay Thai fight on short notice. Walking around at 200 pounds, he agreed to compete at 175 pounds…the lightest he has been in over five years. After a heavy weight cut and a back-and-forth match, Daniel lost a very close split decision that could have gone either way. Not wasting any time, Daniel signed up for a Kickboxing tournament in July.

Having done Kickboxing since he was 19 years old, Daniel had been training as a fun way to stay in shape for 10 years. In 2015, he found Straight Blast Gym Buford and discovered that he was given the tools to start competing in Muay Thai and Kickboxing.

“I like SBG because of the environment. Every one is so cool and fun to be around, which makes for a great training. And of course the coaches. I have been to a lot of gyms in Atlanta and you will not find a better supporting group of coaches then Phillipe, Pat, Jared and Jim. Its a honor to be part of the team and tribe.”

With the support of his Kickboxing and MMA coaches and teammates, Daniel began to compete in 2016. When the afore-mentioned Kickboxing tournament rolled around in July, Daniel was ready to get right back out there after his fight in late June. Training in Kickboxing 4-5 days a week, while running and dieting every day, Daniel got in the best shape of his life. On the day of the Kickboxing tournament, it showed. Head Kickboxing Coach Patrick Barger had this to say about Daniel’s performance that day:

“It was the best I have ever seen him look, by far. His conditioning was great and his movement, fantastic. He was, without a doubt, the most technical fighter in his weight class.”

Daniel beat his first two opponents by unanimous decision, looking great in the process. After 8+ hours at the venue, Daniel lost a very close third fight via decision (a decision so controversial that the promoter awarded him with a title belt that goes to the winners of each weight class). It was a truly impressive performance and made Daniel the only SBG Buford Kickboxing competitor in our history to fight 3 times in one day…a truly remarkable feat.

Awesome job Daniel! Keep up the great work.
