Looking to try one of our Programs but not sure how to start? At the cornerstone of all of our programs is our Foundations. Whether you’re interested in Cardio Kickboxing, CrossFit, Jiu Jitsu, MMA or Muay Thai – you will find that our Foundations program is what separates SBG from your average gym!
Before you begin any of our programs, we want you to have a proper foundation that everything else will build on. That’s where the Foundations Program comes in. In this 12 or 16 lesson course, you will learn the techniques, movements and mentality necessary to get the most out of your training.
From day one in Foundations, you’ll be learning some of the most important tools that will carry you into the next level. Whether it be the the correct form and grips on a pull up, throwing a proper kick or punch, legit self-defense techniques, or simply how to do a proper squat – you’ll be learning the real deal from the very beginning.
The Foundations program offers more personal attention and provides a safe environment for exhilarated learning. By offering more personal attention in a smaller class, Foundations prevents you from feeling overwhelmed and frustrated, which often leads to people abandoning their fitness goals.
We ask that you bring an open mind to your SBG Foundations class. You may have taken classes elsewhere or feel you know some of these movements. Trust our coaches. Foundations is here to help you develop the techniques and skills required to begin your training the right way.
Although 90% of fights end up on the ground, they all start standing. This is where some good Muay Thai Kickboxing comes in handy.
Muay Thai is an ancient Martial Art from Thailand. It combines punches, kicks, knees and elbows to create a devastatingly effective Martial Art.
Muay Thai Kickboxing is also an incredible way to stay in shape. Combining pad work with traditional exercise movements makes for a fantastic workout.
BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU
BJJ was introduced to America when the Gracie’s came to the USA and dominated the early UFC’s. To our amazement Royce Gracie, a relatively small man was finishing much larger opponents with techniques we had never seen before. Frequently these opponents outweighed him by over 50 pounds or more.
The techniques Gracie used are the same techniques we teach daily at SBG Sandy Springs. They are also the same techniques that are now used by the American Special Forces and all Mixed Martial Artist.
That said, Jiu Jitsu is not just for elite level athletes and warriors. Jiu Jitsu is for everybody. We pride ourselves at Straight Blast Gym in creating Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training environments that benefit the lives of people regardless of shape, size or gender. Many of our students have no intention of competing and aren’t that concerned with self-defense either. They love practicing Jiu Jitsu because there is always learning involved and it keeps them healthy in mind, body and spirit.

Many of our members enjoy what they learn and the fantastic shape they get in from the Foundations curriculum but, for those interested in taking their game to the next level, you can join our more advanced classes. DO PEOPLE GET INJURED IN YOUR MMA CLASSES?
This is a great question that we hear a lot and one of the biggest reasons why it’s important to choose the right MMA school. There are many “MMA” Schools that have no real experience in MMA and put their members at risk regularly by using unwise training methods. Steer clear of schools like this. It is highly likely that you could end up hurt.
The instructors at SBG have decades of expereince and teach in a proven system that keeps it’s members safe while allowing them to advance in the fastest possible way.
When using the proper training methods, training MMA has less risk of injury than playing traditional sports such as Football and Basketball. It’s our goal at SBG-Buford to maximize your knowledge and ability while limiting the risk of injury.
KIDS MARTIAL ARTS
What separates Growing Gorilla’s from other kids programs in the city is that it combines truly effective martial arts and self-defense training with personal development and life skills.
Not only will your child learn how to deal with volatile people, they will learn the importance of respect, discipline and giving back to their community. In addition to the martial arts training your child will receive in the gym, they will have an opportunity to compete if they wish.
Our Growing Gorillas Jiu Jitsu Competition Team is the most dominate in the state winning multiple gold medals at every tournament.
CrossFit is a Group Fitness Class taught by one of our top notch Personal Trainers in Buford, GA. At Straight Blast CrossFit, you will torch fat, develope lean muscle and improve your overall heatlh. In each class, our personal trainer will take you through a series of circuits designed to workout your entire body.
Having a Personal Trainer in Buford working with you individually a few times a week will cost you somewhere between $700 and $1,000 a month. Is it worth it? I think so. Over the years I’ve seen thousands of people running on the treadmill for hours only to get mediocre results at best. Or worse yet, the people in the weight room lifting with no rhyme or reason, frequently doing the lift wrong and therefore risking injury.

You ready to lift some heavy weight? The SBG barbell club is a part of Team Georgia weightlifting. Members of the Barbell club are looking to increase their maximum power output and top-line strength to your performance. A certified USAW (USA Weightlifting) certified coach will oversee your workouts and put together your programming, so that all you have to do is show up and show that weight who’s boss! Barbell Club members have communal lifting times in which they work together, and with their coaches, to achieve and meet tangible goals in weightlifting. Members will be shown how to maximize their results in all of the major Olympic style lifts; the Snatch, Clean, Clean & Jerk, and an assortment of powerlifting exercises.
